Alluvial Diagram
Alluvial Diagram. Alluvial diagrams are a type of flow diagram originally developed to represent changes in network structure over time. Like a Sankey, Alluvial diagrams consist of flows (i.e. the alluvium) between segmented blocks of nodes.
Alluvial diagrams are a type of flow diagram originally developed to represent changes in network structure over time.
They group categorical data into flows that can easily be traced in the diagram.
Alluvial diagrams per se have, to my knowledge, only come about in the last decade. The design and functionality were originally inspired by the alluvial package and have benefitted from the feedback of many users. An alluvial diagram illustrating the emergence of neuroscience.
